Big Love by Josh Max in Salon

I've been searching searching searching the blogosphere with a fine-toothed comb, trying to find some response to this article. I need someone to tell me what to think. Preferably a fat woman.

Honestly though, I'm almost 100% in favor of people discussing their against-the-norm attractions, but there were bits of prose (I began to happily, gently lose myself in her spheres, her bountiful soft flesh, her tiny lips and enormous hips) that make me wonder what this is really doing. For example: why does the article begin and end with some guy making anti-fat comments? I think I mostly liked the piece, but feel this sense of self-doubt about my reaction. Anyone care to weigh in?

Edited to add: I just so happened to use "weigh in". Accidentally. I am really sorry. Ugh.

Edited again to add: zuzu took care of it.

    Hey, El---Josh Max here.

"I've been searching searching searching the blogosphere with a fine-toothed comb, trying to find some response to this article. "

Look on Salon.com's READ LETTERS icon under BIG LOVE itself; there are 171 responses as of today.

Below that, there is an icon where you can find people blogging about what I wrote.

"For example: why does the article begin and end with some guy making anti-fat comments? I think I mostly liked the piece, but feel this sense of self-doubt about my reaction. Anyone care to weigh in?"

I started and ended it that way because most people will hold their tongue about race, religion and other societal hot buttons, but won't think twice about making anti-fat comments in the presence of someone who, so they think, shares equal venom for those people. Once upon a time, I would just keep my mouth shut if people made jokes about rolling fat chicks in flour.

Also, I'm not just a guy who found a sweet love, hooray for me---I am actually doing something about the hate that gets spewed on overweight people, starting by saying, "HEY! I don't like what you said." And publishing articles like BIG LOVE.

Anyway, thanks for reading it...see you!

El, as a fat woman I didn't find his description of his lover's body bothersome--in a world that seems to feel nothing but disgust for fat women's ample flesh, even fleeting praise for our bodies is a joy. And such genuine praise, too. I loved his article, I appreciated it greatly, and I was glad zuzu gave the heads-up about the subsequent fat-hating letters, so I could avoid them. Don't need that bullshit, no ma'am.
