    Weekend Homework

    Thank God It's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Now, I realize that not everyone feels they can celebrate Mother's Day and I'm sympathetic to that, but I think my mother is totally fantastic and I am so lucky to have her. So, if you feel the same way, I hope you'll let yours know. There simply aren't enough opportunities in this world to celebrate and focus on your loved ones, so I like to make the most of them. One way of doing that might be to attend Mamapalooza, but it also might be to avoid it. I'm not really sure.

    2. This weekend doesn't seem to be offering any good movies. So, rent something. Slate recommends He-Man, my childhood idol (seriously). I'm going to do the last season of Six Feet Under.

    3. Y'all know how much I hate McCain and how much I've enjoyed everyone's recent leap to my bandwagon. Enjoy it with me, by reading Conason's
    Maverick -- or panderer?.

    4. I also really enjoy these two pieces on music in this week's Slate -
The Perils of Poptimism: Does Hating Rock Make You A Music Critic? and Blacklisted: Is Stephin Merrit a Racist Because He Doesn't Like Hip-Hop?

    5. Sleep. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Oh, you're making me want to write a post about cartoons. I turned 30 and I still love 'em. Can't remember who my first childhood cartoon hero was. Was it Storm from the X-Men cartoon or Jem?

As far as dvds go, I've still got to watch Domino, Breakfast on Pluto and Northern Exposure Season 4 (the disc with "Revelations" on it, a.k.a. Chris in the Monastery) before Netflix will send me anything new.

Reading: Fledgling by Octavia Butler, HP6, and The Asian Mystique by Sheridan Prasso.

That Slate recommendation is probably better than some of the crap they have out today. I saw this a while ago on some Saturday morning:

    http://www.bratz.com

apparantly its not just a TV show but an entire commercial brand.

Don't get me started on Bratz. Those dolls look like streetwalkers. I can't believe they're popular enough to get a cartoon.

I like some of the stuff on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. The Life and Times of Juniper Lee is pretty good. I loved Samurai Jack when it was on. And Justice League is pretty good too. On the Nick side, I love Fairly Oddparents. Forget SpongeBob, FO is the queerest cartoon on tv. EL, you should check it out.

Fairly Oddparents, huh? Like the title and have never heard of it. But you've said the magic word, so ... is it available on Netflix (don't own a tv, but can watch dvds on my computer)?

Dustdaughter, your dvd pics are luscious and I find myself wanting to thoroughly revamp my queue.

As far as Bratz are concerned, I was completely unaware of their existence beyond the dolls, which I have looked at askance for some time. I prefer the Powerpuff Girls and miss them terribly.
