    Little Thoughts on National Politics

    1. Having heard the President's address on immigration, I think it's going to raise his poll numbers. Again, I think his poll numbers are basically just for our (sort of sick) entertainment (as I think they'll have very little affect on the November elections).

    2. I was listening to some radio program, can't recall, and someone was on there talking about Dick Cheney and how his not having presidential ambitions was ruining the White House because usually the hier to the party's ticket is there in the second term keeping the President from going all the way with some of his ideas in the second term. Then I thought, that's exactly why Vice President Cheney has been so effective in advancing his policies in the White House. Do we want future Presidents to be Vice Presidents?

    3. Not hearing enough about Iraq lately. Maybe I should be grateful, but it makes me nervous.

    4. Even though it seems to be on firmer legal ground, the NSA-phone records stuff is as scary to me as being listened in on.

Not hearing much about Iraq is exactly why he made the immigration speech. Bait and switch is his stock in trade.

As for Veeps after Cheney I'm beginning to rethink the whole idea of Vice Presidents period.

Hmm. Interesting thought, Poobah. Who would be next in the line of succession? Speaker? I don't feel comfortable with one congressional district and then the Congressperson's party electing the next-in-line for President. Yet, this VP thing is a little iffy.
