Sunday's Styles: Roundup!
The New York Times has a few hobby horses in its "Style" section. More than a few. Every six months or so, it seems we are again wowed by investigative journalism on the pro-ana movement (sooooo crazy, so sad!) and every couple of weeks we find out just how much it costs for rich WASP women to
look impeccably rich and WASPy, if indeed those two topics are entirely divisible.
But the most important and unyielding of NYT's contributions to our collective understanding of "style" are their complex pictures of gender and sexuality. This week's tidbit: Men don't like stickers.
But, as Ang Lee already told us, they do like cowboys: I looked at the men's faces in our little group. They too were taken in by Lightning's maleness and watched wistfully as if Lightning were the epitome of pure manliness, a level of masculinity they would never achieve but aspired to in their reveries.
