    Next Best Thing to Picard/Riker?

PlanetOut whets the appetite for queer sci-fi:

Sir Ian McKellen wanted his "X-Men" character, Magneto, to participate in some man-on-man sex in the upcoming "X-Men: The Last Stand."
The esteemed openly gay actor wished for Patrick Stewart's telepathic hero as a sex partner.

"It would be wonderful if the camera hovered over Magneto's bed, to discover him making love to Professor X," he said.

My boyfriend's a big Star Trek:TNG fan. I had fears that he'd say, "Make it so," right before oral sex.

    Luckily, that hasn't happened.

I personally prefer "engage" for pillow talk.

OMFG. This is so amazing. I love Ian McKellan (Gandalf! Magneto! Both so different yet both so good!) and think it's so fucking awesome and hot that he's queer. This has completely made my day.

    Magneto/Professor X totally trumps Picard/Riker.

I'm sorry Jack, darling, but Picard/Riker would checkmate Magento/X anyday.

    But I'm glad you're excited too! :)

Heh. I hope that everyone's seen McKellan's version of Richard the 3rd. More timely than ever, really.

Seriously, I've had my flings w/Trek and the X-Men, et al. I have great sympathy for queer folks who try to find space for themselves despite corporate obsession with catering to what Peoria supposedly wants before it will watch/buy. However, I don't think they'll ever make room for you in the shows proper, only in the fannish margins. If you want to impress 'em, you'll need to make your own pop culture epic from scratch and turn it into some kind of J.K. Rowling-like phenomenon that they literally cannot afford to ignore.

If that's really what you want. I think Allison Bechdel once said --regarding an invite she'd had to develop a queer "all-ages" strip for some big-hame syndicate-- that the day she was that mainstream was the day she'd need to be taken out and shot. :/

EL, speaking of the "queer X-Men," you've seen Ivan Velez' work, haven't you ?

(I'll be damned. Blogger's finally doing its job. Excuse me while I faint dead away --alsis39.9/ms_xeno)
